THE MINOR ILLNESS CLINIC
We have now incorporated the Minor Illness Clinic into our ON THE DAY TEAM, offered every day to all patients needing appointments on the day they ring in. We started this service in September 2016.
We run a range of clinics. For an appointment or further details, please call on (01409) 253692.
This clinic provides support and advice about family planning, contraception and safer sex to both women and men. From 1st April 2016 we are no longer able to provide contraceptive implants and coil insertions. Coil removals can still be arranged for patients.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD)
Led by our nursing team, this clinic provides advice, support and health monitoring for patients diagnosed with a respiratory disease.
Covers all aspects of women's health, smears, breast care, weight checks etc.
Thursday & Friday 4pm-5.30pm
Asthma sufferers can attend this clinic for advice and support from our nurses who specialise in asthma care.
Led by our nursing team, this clinic offers advice and general health check-ups to patients diagnosed with diabetes.
This clinic offers a 20 minute appointment with our Health Care Assistants to patients who need their legs regularly treated - including ulcer dressings, creaming and washing.
Tuesday 1.30 - 3pm
Babies are invited to attend this clinic to receive their childhood immunisations.
Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)
CHD sufferers can attend this clinic for advice, support and health monitoring from our nurses who specialise in CHD care.
Patients prone to bone breaks are invited to have a fracture risk assessment with a member of the health care team. This is a 20 minute appointment to provide patients with advice and guidance aimed at minimizing the risk of further fractures. Please bring your questionnaire with you.
General dietary advice is available. Speak to the practice nurses for more information
This clinic is run by the practice nursing team, who in liaison with the district nursing team and GPs provide support and health monitoring for those patients who have suffered a stroke.
Advice and immunisations are available for those travelling to other countries.
We are unable to offer travel appointments within four weeks of travel therefore we suggest that you contact MASTA Travel (Plymouth) clinic if you are travelling within the next four weeks. Tel: 0330 100 4288 or 01752 205556.

INFECTION CONTROL DECLARATION
At Holsworthy Medical centre we expect all staff to comply with infection control policies and procedures.
Please call after 1pm to enquire about your test results as our reception staff will have more time to deal with your request.
Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
When you take your test you will be told how long it will be before the results are returned to the practice.
It is your responsibility to check your results and to make an appointment to discuss them with your doctor if your are advised to do so. Unless your results have been marked as needing attention and follow-up, you will be offered the next available non-urgent telephone appointment with your own GP.

If a GP or another member of our health care team believes you need hospital treatment or specialist care elsewhere, they can provide information regarding suitable options and arrange a referral for you.
Whatever the day or time, if you or someone else experiences severe chest pain, loss of blood or suspected broken bones, go to your nearest accident and emergency department or call 999. Accident and emergency departments are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can assess serious injuries and provide emergency treatment. Yours nearest A&E department are at North Devon District Hospital (Barnstaple), Derriford District Hospital (Plymouth) or Royal Devon & Exeter District Hospital (Exeter).
Holsworthy Medical Centre provides a Minor Injury service, during surgery opening hours, led by our nursing team. Outside normal hours the nearest Minor Injury Unit is at Stratton Medical Centre which is open 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Please note that patients who are not registered at the practice and whose injuries have occurred more than 48 hours earlier should be seen by their own GP.
The Retinal Screening Service hold their annual clinics at the medical centre. This service is based in Exeter but uses the medical centre facilities to serve people closer to home. An appointment is offered every year to people who have diabetes so that the condition of the eyes can be checked. If you have diabetes you will be called by letter every year an you will be expected to book your appointment through the Retinal Screening Service and not through he surgery.
